General Information

A horse may only be ridden by one rider at the Championships.

A horse may only compete in three tests on any day.

Horses and riders must be registered with Dressage Ireland before the closing date of entry to any Regional Show in order to be eligible for qualifying scores

All qualification scores must be gained under a suitably listed Dressage Ireland judge at Dressage Ireland shows.

Entries

Entries for the 2019 National Championships will open on 30th August 2019 and close on the 9th September 2019. No late entries will be accepted.

Qualifications Entries

Qualifying scores will be accepted from the 8th April 2019 up to and including the 14th September 2019. Entries made by those pending their final qualification scores will be accepted once entries are made by the closing date of the 9th September 2019. Should an entrant not attain the necessary qualifying scores by the 14th September 2019, their entry fees will be refunded.

Preliminary, Novice, Elementary, Medium, FEI Pony and Para Championships

To participate in Preliminary, Novice, Elementary and Medium Championships, competitors must have achieved a qualifying standard of 64% on three occasions between 8th April 2019 and 14th September 2019.

Rider and horse combinations must have gained at least one qualification score in a Championship test from Classes 1-10 above.

Two qualifying scores at the same level may be obtained at the same show as long the two tests are judged by different Judges.

Pony Riders with qualifying scores obtained in FEI Pony Classes are also eligible to enter the Medium Championships.

Please note: Scores obtained in the following Preliminary tests will NOT count towards qualifying scores: BD1 (2006), BD2 (2016), BD7 (2002/2016).

Advanced Medium and Above Championships

A horse may only be ridden by one rider at the Championships.

To participate in Advanced Medium - PSG Championships, competitors must have achieved a qualifying standard of 63% twice between 8th April 2019 and 14th September 2019.

Irish based rider and horse combinations must have gained at least one qualification score in Ireland during the qualification period. Other qualification scores may have been gained abroad.

Irish Riders based overseas must have three qualifying scores from three separate shows within the same timeframe.

For Intermédiaire I - Grand Prix, competitors must have achieved a qualifying standard of 63% once between 8th April 2019 and 14th September 2019.

Please note that a qualification score at Intermédiaire I level gives you a qualification score for PSG as well and that a qualification score at Grand Prix gives you qualification for Intermédiaire II.

Trailblazers Championships

To participate in Junior and Senior Trailblazers classes, competitors must have achieved a qualifying standard of 63% three times in Trailblazer classes, between 8th April 2019 and 14th September 2019.

The Junior Trailblazers Preliminary class will be split into two sections:

  • Junior Trailblazers Preliminary A is for riders under 12 years of age (as of the 1st January 2019).
  • Junior Trailblazers Preliminary B is for riders aged 12-16 years (as of the 1st January 2019).

Please note: Trailblazer members may only compete and qualify for National Competitions in Trailblazer classes. If the rider is qualified for National Competitions in both Trailblazer and regular adult classes, they may not compete in both Championships – they must choose one or the other.

Trailblazers may carry a whip and have their tests commanded (called out). Trailblazers are not allowed to wear spurs.

Sportsman Championships

To participate in Sportsman classes, competitors must have Sportsman membership and have achieved a qualifying standard of 63% three times in the relevant Sportsman class, between 8th April 2019 and 14th September 2019.

Freestyle to Music Championships

Qualification is required as set out above for Novice, Elementary, Medium, Advanced Medium. For example, to compete in the Elementary Freestyle to Music competitors must attain the required qualification for the Elementary Championship.

Competitors are asked to provide their music to the organisers at least one hour before the start of competitions on Sunday morning.

Please note that music must be supplied on a CD and a copy CD.

It is the responsibility of competitors to ensure that both their chosen music CDs are handed to the show secretary on time and collected after the completion of the classes.

Dressage Ireland does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to CDs.

Young Dressage Horse

This class is open to horses 4 or 5 years old as of 1st January 2019, of any breeding.

Horse and rider combinations must have achieved 64% on two occasions at two separate shows between 8th April 2019 and 14th September 2019 in registered Preliminary or Novice or Young Horse Classes.

If there are insufficient entries, classes 18 and 19 will be amalgamated.

Regional Team Championship

This class is open to one team from each Dressage Ireland region.

4 team members in total. ALL levels qualify to be on a team, however only a maximum of 2 riders per level is permitted and must be 4 different combinations (i.e. same rider on a different horse is not permitted).

The best three scores will count from the riders’ first tests ridden at the Championships.
