Expression of interest applications are now open for the 2019 Senior Home International at Wellington EC in Hampshire, UK . A full schedule will be made available shortly .
Dressage Ireland have been invited to field some teams. Please read the criteria below and submit Dressage Ireland membership numbers of both rider and horse along with the horse's competition name and additional information, as sought below, to support your application.
This is a great opportunity for riders to gain valuable experience in a friendly environment while competing with teams from England, Scotland and Wales. It promotes learning, helps combinations grow in confidence, builds team spirit, is a good way to make new friendships, and most importantly is good fun!

All Dressage Ireland team members will have to adhere to the following requirements.
Wellington Vaccination Policy
“FOR ALL EVENTS AT WELLINGTON WE ARE FOLLOWING THE LATEST BRITISH EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION GUIDANCE IN RELATION TO EQUINE FLU.
VACCINATIONS MUST BE CURRENT (WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS) AND RECORDS MUST BE CONSISTENT FROM THE DATE OF THE INITIAL COURSE UP TO THE DATE OF THE CURRENT VACCINATION WITH NO BREAKS. VACCINATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN RESTARTED ARE ACCEPTABLE AS LONG AS CONTINUITY HAS BEEN MAINTAINED.
IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT IF VACCINATIONS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, A BOOSTER IS GIVEN BUT 7 CLEAR DAYS MUST BE ALLOWED BEFORE COMPETING.
COPIES OF THE VACCINATION PAGE OF YOUR HORSE'S PASSPORT MUST BE FORWARDED TO YOUR NOMINATED CHEF D’EQUIPE FOR CHECKING BEFORE YOU TRAVEL, ANY HORSE WHOSE VACCINATION RECORDS ARE NOT CORRECT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE”.
SENIOR REGIONAL SELECTION POLICY 2019
OBJECTIVE OF SELECTION POLICY
The over-riding objective of the Senior Selection Policy is to guide selection of teams in a fair, equitable and transparent way. Selection for Teams is open to all Dressage Ireland members who meet the criteria .
Selection is subject to compliance with Dressage Ireland, British Dressage and FEI Rules on doping and medication control for Human and Equine.
The Selection Policy applies to the selection of riders /teams for the Senior Home International
ELIGIBILITY / AVAILABILITY FOR SELECTION
All rider’s ponies and horses available for selection must have current full Dressage Ireland membership.
Only combinations fulfilling the criteria stated in the Selection Policy will be considered for selection.
Riders applying for consideration for selection MUST ensure their availability for the dates of the respective competition they are applying for.
The Selectors reserve the right not to send a team or individual to any competition.
* A record of the applicant's training in the past six months.
* A minimum of three scores of 66% or above at Preliminary, Novice, Elementary and Medium level and scores of a minimum of 65% at Advanced Medium to PSG level at Dressage Ireland or British Dressage affiliated competitions in the past six months preceding selection.
* Minimum of 2 different judges over the 3 scores.
* Scores to be achieved at a minimum of 2 different venues.
*Only scores achieved at the relevant level can be considered (i.e. the level at which the rider is hoping to compete).
* Freestyle or HC scores cannot be considered at any level.
In the event of oversubscription where different riders’ average scores are within 2%, selectors will review each rider’s competition record and any other relevant information. Selection decisions will be finalised from the following:
* Consistency and recent form at the level for which the combination is applying
* Past form at the Winter Finals.
* Past form at 2 day events - e.g. Wild Atlantic Festival , Spruce Lodge Classic and the Northern Ireland 2 day Festival.
* Results gained in 20 x 60 arena.
* Results gained from different judges.
Please note that the above is only considered in the event of oversubscription and is not the necessary criteria for applying for the Senior International.
After contacting selected combinations, a list of selected combinations will be published on the Dressage Ireland website and Facebook page.
They will have the knowledge and experience required to effectively select teams and will be as free from all vested interests / conflicts of interest as is possible.
If any member of the Selection Panel would like to be considered for selection then they must stand down from the Selection Panel for the relevant event and should not take part in any of the selection processes for this event.
If any one of the Selectors has privately trained any rider who is being considered for selection they must not take part in the selection decision involving that individual.
The Selectors may substitute a team member for a reserve between the announcement of the Team and up to the date of travel and or up to one hour before the Veterinary Inspection (at the Home International).
Team spirit is of utmost importance and Dressage Ireland expects riders and their supporters to have good attitude and participate in all the required activities. A high level of commitment to all the varied aspects for the preparation process is important.
Riders selected to represent Dressage Ireland at the Senior Home International will be expected to attend team information meetings at the event as required.
Although good results in competitions are important, the onus is on the riders not to over campaign their horses/ponies before the event, as horses will need adequate rest to cope with the stress of traveling .
It is important that riders plan ahead, so they and their horse/pony are in the best form for the Home International competition.
All Home Internationals competitions will be entirely self-funded by riders.
HORSE WELFARE AND RIDERS CODE OF CONDUCT
There must be a commitment for all riders to adhere to the code of conduct for members and welfare standards. Please refer to the welfare and Dressage Ireland member code of conduct.
All selected riders agree to abide by the rules of the competition at all times and those of Dressage Ireland and British Dressage.
The Training Committee will have the right to amend or change selection policies where necessary at any time in order to fulfill the objectives of the Selection Policy, as long as these changes and amendments are clearly communicated to all parties.
CANCELLATION / POSTPONEMENT
In the event of cancellations postponement the relevant parties will be notified straightaway. In the event of a situation where a new and/or different team needs to be selected all parties will be notified and normal procedure for selection will be followed.
In the event of exceptional circumstances beyond the organising committee’s control (e.g. disease outbreak in horses) or anything which may put riders, their support teams or horses at risk, the Board of Dressage Ireland reserves the right to make the decision either to change the selection policy or procedure which might include withdrawing the teams from competition.
VETERINARY / MEDICAL
Selected riders must notify Claire Sedgeman of any change in their own health or fitness status, or their horse/pony health status or veterinary/medical management immediately.
Training / Test Riding
Training and test riding clinics will be organised for those that are selected with an accredited coach and a List 1/2 Judge. Details of same to follow.
